About the Kirk Douglas Theatre

The Kirk Douglas Theatre is at 9820 Washington Blvd in Downtown Culver City. Center Theatre Group uses the venue for adventurous new work, including many of the company’s world premieres.

The building opened in 1947 as the 1,160-seat Culver Theatre, a Fox West Coast Theatres movie house. It later became a live theatre and took its current name in 2004. Today, the auditorium seats 317. The Streamline Moderne exterior retains historic decorative details on its marquee and four-sided name tower.

Finding current shows and tickets

For current productions and performance times, consult Center Theatre Group’s listings. Tickets start at $40.25, with fees included. You can buy tickets online, by phone or in person at the box office.

The box office opens two hours before performances. In-person purchases there have no handling fees. Before you go, check the official site for current show, ticket and practical venue information.

Getting to the theatre

The Kirk Douglas Theatre is about a five-minute drive from Galaxy Inn, or about a 27-minute walk. Its Downtown Culver City address is 9820 Washington Blvd.

The theatre recommends taking Metro’s E Line to Culver City Station, then transferring to Culver City Bus Line 1 for Washington Boulevard and Hughes Avenue. Its listed round-trip fare is $3.50, plus $2 for a reusable TAP card per person. For rideshare pickup, use the loading zone directly in front of the venue on Washington Boulevard.

Parking and arrival timing

Metered street parking is available on Washington, Culver and Venice boulevards. Meters run until 8 p.m. and are free on Sundays. Parking rules and availability can change, so check current details before setting out.

Culver City City Hall offers three hours of covered parking free with validation at the theatre. Bring your parking ticket, enter the garage from Duquesne Avenue, and pay $1 for each additional 30 minutes.

Other listed options include parking structures on Watseka Avenue, Cardiff Avenue and Ince Boulevard, as well as a public valet station on Culver Boulevard, half a block from the theatre’s rear.

Allow time to reach your seat before the performance begins. At performances with late seating, you may be asked to wait in the lobby until a suitable break if you arrive after the show starts. You may also be seated in an alternate seat until intermission.

Accessibility and venue policies

Wheelchair-accessible seating is available on both the main floor and in the gallery. A fully accessible restroom is in the main lobby. Assistive listening devices are available in the lobbies of Center Theatre Group’s three theatres on a first-come, first-served basis, and service animals are welcome.

One Saturday matinee for each mainstage Center Theatre Group production is designated as an ACCESS performance. At the Kirk Douglas Theatre, these performances offer American Sign Language interpretation and audio description. Open captioning is not available at this venue.

Children under six are not admitted unless a production is advertised for younger audiences. Every attendee needs a ticket, and babes in arms are not admitted. Center Theatre Group asks patrons to avoid strong perfumes and cologne; photography and recording are not permitted unless authorized.
